Peggy Bryant Harvey of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, following a short illness. Peggy was born and raised in Beckley, West Virgina, and also lived in Charleston and Whitesville. While attending Woodrow Wilson High School, Peggy met the love of her life Edwin Wallace Harvey. They dated for five years while Edwin enlisted, then went to college. Peggy and Edwin married in 1951, then moved to Norfolk, Virginia for Edwin to continue pursuing his career with the US Customs Service. Peggy was very proud to have worked for the US Coast Guard for the six years they lived in Norfolk. When Edwin had the opportunity to move up in Customs by transferring to Jacksonville, they made the move and never moved again. Peggy and Edwin purchased their home a year after arriving in Jacksonville, raised their daughters there, and lived a life dedicated to each other and their family there.
Peggy was a gifted artist in oils, pastels, and ceramics as well as a talented seamstress. She used her sewing skills to create everything from little girls’ dresses to elaborate window dressings to completely restoring the interior of Edwin’s project MGB. Peggy’s gift for sewing led her to serve several years as the uniform quartermaster for the Englewood High School Band.
The only thing more important to Peggy than her family was her relationship with Jesus. She loved Him with a childlike faith and would talk about God like a proud daughter talking about her daddy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beckley, West Virginia which held a very special place in her heart for all her life. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville in 1982 where she enjoyed watching her daughters play in the orchestra.
Edwin passed away in 2008, and Peggy always said there would never be anyone else for her. She loved and missed him for the remainder of her life.
Peggy is survived by her daughters Cynthia Harvey Yost (David) and Linda Harvey Wade-Bahr (Randy), granddaughter Jessica Yost O’Brien, grandson Matthew David Yost (Ashley), grandson Chandler Houston Wade (Taylor), and great grandchildren Beckett O’Brien, Vanna Wade, Roman Yost, and Harlan Yost.
Services will be held in The Lodge at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery on March 4, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the service will start at 11:00 a.m.
