

Philip graduated from Gateway High School in 1968. He then attended Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in May of 1972.
Following his graduation, Philip proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. His service included assignments in Guam, San Diego, California, and Charleston, South Carolina.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, J. Boyd Chamblin Harris and Martha Rhodes Foster Harris, and by his brother, Jeffrey Harris.
He is survived by his former wife, Carrie Mae Braas, and his wife, Elena M. Harris. He is also survived by his son, Jeff Harris, and his beloved granddaughter, Jocelyn Paige Harris. Philip was a devoted stepfather to Claudia Patterson and Nathalie Lagersie, and a loving “Papy Phil” to his grandchildren Maiah, Camille, and Chloe’, who brought him great pride and joy.
He is further survived by his brothers Kelly Harris (Terri) and Andrew Harris (Therese); nephews Benjamin Harris (Jaime), Christopher Harris, Jonathan Harris, and Nicholas Harris (Lexie); niece Kimberly Harris (Danny); and great-niece Camille.
Philip deeply cherished the Jim Fortuna Senior Center, where he and his friends spent countless hours playing sports, playing cards, and sharing many meals together. The center was the heart of his social life, and his family is profoundly grateful for its commitment to seniors and the strong sense of community it provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Philip’s name to the Jim Fortuna Senior Center.
Philip will be remembered as a proud Navy veteran, a devoted husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather, and a man who valued service, friendship, and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10th, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32211. The family will receive friends one hour prior at 10:00 AM. Committal services will be held on Monday, January 12th, 2026 at 11:30 AM at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
