TURNER - My Momma, Rachel Louise Gentry Turner, passed away peacefully April 16, 2106 at Community Hospice, St. Vincent’s Hospital. She was born on the 4th of July, 1926 and grew up in Elkin, North Carolina. She moved to Winston-Salem after high school to attend business college and lived there until she met, on a blind date, the love of her life, John Turner. He swept her off her feet and all the way to Jacksonville, Fl. where they made their home for the rest of their days. During her career she worked for the Florida National Banks, retiring in 1984 as a Trust Officer. After retirement, she and Daddy spent their days traveling the US and spoiling their granddaughter. In June 2014, she moved to the Windsor-Ortega where she was so very happy and stayed busy making new friends, playing Dominoes and usually winning at bingo. She was also a member of the Knit-Wits and made over 300 caps to be used in homeless shelters, VA hospitals and wherever there was a head that needed to be covered. She was a very gracious hostess as well as a fantastic cook and, with any luck, you would be invited for Chicken and Dumplins, green beans and her world famous 5 Flavor Pound Cake…a tradition now carried on by her granddaughter, Sarah. Her greatest accomplishments would be that of a loving and devoted wife to my Daddy, an incredible Momma to me, the world’s very best MeMe to Sarah B., and a caring and good friend to so many. She is survived by me, her daughter, Anna Louise Turner Woolard, her granddaughter, Sarah Brooke Carter (Greg), some very, very special “freimly” and nieces and nephews. Her last wish was to “go be with Johnny” and that she will be. After a Celebration of her Life at St John’s Presbyterian Church on Thursday, May 19 at 11:00 am, her ashes will be placed next to Daddy at National Cemetery in Jacksonville. We ask please for no flowers but that acts of love and kindness be made in Momma’s memory to St. John’s Presbyterian Church, 4275 Herschel St., Jacksonville, Fl. 32210. Arrangements are under the care of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Jacksonville 32211
