

He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard a sub chaser in
the Pacific. He moved from Charlotte, N.C. to Jacksonville, Florida, where
he worked for Ford Motor Company until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Jean McGill, and also by eleven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Dorothy F. McGill; daughter, Marla
Froehling (Bob) Crystal River, Fl ; stepdaughters Laura Gillis (Donny)
Dublin, Ga., Adair Yearwood (Dan) Jacksonville; and stepson Jay Fanning
(Kathi) Cooper City, FL. Granddaughters Melissa Meador (Chip) Chesapeake,
Va., Amanda Meffert, Brooklyn, N.Y., Laura Leigh Gillis, Atlanta, Ga.,
Julianne Gillis, Dublin, Ga., and Anna Hoffman, Jacksonville; also great
grandchildren, Caroline and James Meador, Chesapeake, Va.
He was a member of Southside Baptist Church for over 60 years. His hobbies
were golf and gardening. He loved God and his family and was a caring, gentle
soul.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 11:30 A.M. at
Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville.
