Rick was born October 22,1946 in Bayside, NY. When he was four, he moved to Huntington, New York. He lived a typical middle class life graduating from Huntington High School in 1964. He went on to Ithaca College, where he played both lacrosse and hockey for the Bombers. He graduated in the Spring of 1968, with a BS in Business Administration. In September of that same year he began the pursuit of his MBA at Syracuse University.
After only one semester, with the Vietnam war gearing up and a low lottery number, he was drafted into the US Army. He spent twenty two months in Columbia SC, when he earned an early Honorable Discharge as an E-5 to return to Syracuse to resume his MBA studies. In November he matriculated with an MBA with a major in Finance and a minor in Marketing.
His first job was with The Pyramid Companies, based in Syracuse. After only a year with the company, they filed bankruptcy. However early in that same year Rick went on a blind date with his future wife. On October 21, 1972, they were married in Syracuse. In November, as a result of the bankruptcy, Rick lost his job with Pyramid. That proved pivotal, as shortly thereafter, they decided to move to Jacksonville, establish roots and build their life in the south.
Upon arrival they both were employed almost immediately. Megan as an RN; a highly in demand skill. Rick went to work with Stockton, Whatley and Davin. He worked for 5 years there as a mortgage broker to learn commercial real estate financing. While he loved real estate, he quickly identified that he needed to understand financing, if he was going to be successful.
He left SWD to work for the Haskell Company in their real estate development department for five years. Thereafter came the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a company that would be building warehouses on a national basis. Unit Capital was successful by every measure. So much so that it was acquired by GATX, a Fortune 100 company at the time, some seven years later. He worked for GATX for a couple more years and retired. He went back to work with MPS Group, and its successor Adecco some years later to help implement changes to the real estate department.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Megan, who was a wonderful and loving partner who supported him so many different ways, Ryan (son) and his wife Erika, and their children Madeline-19, and Bodie-14, Lindsay and her daughter Mallory-13, a sister Lynn who resides in Boston, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
