Richard Vito Monsorno, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully into the arms of God at the age of 66 in his home on Father’s Day, surrounded by his family. He retired in 2007 after faithfully dedicating his working years as Senior Vice President, Technology/Product Development at the same company for over 30 years. A New York native, he earned an engineering degree from Stony Brook University prior to relocating to Florida. Richard was an entrepreneur who loved to design, engineer, and build, especially boats. He is remembered by his family and friends as a sharp, witty, funny, and hardworking man, into even his final moments.
Rich loved to dance and make memories with his beautiful and devoted wife, Jomarie, and their children. He encouraged and showed an interest in each of his children’s talents and pursuits. He enjoyed study, prayer, and deep theological conversations with his eldest daughter, Melody and son by marriage, Cameron. He loved talking about real estate and investments with his daughter, Gina, and they shared an interest in mindfulness in health and diet. His love of bringing his visions and ideas to life endured in his collaboration on creative projects alongside his sons. He and his eldest son, Rick, worked together in a shared passion for designing and producing watercraft. He bonded with his son, Jason, over too many things to list including robotics and their love of Corvette racing. Jason is a software developer who shares his father’s industrious nature. Rich also shared a love of music and took a keen interest in teaching his granddaughter, Evie, the ukulele and has encouraged her love of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). He enjoyed watching granddaughter, Christiana, grow to become his right-hand helper and partner in juicing. He will be remembered as bicycle mechanic, monkey in the middle, golfing grandpa. Rich developed a passion for prayer and reading God’s word and had a great desire to be used by God to help and heal others.
“For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me.” Philippians 23-1:21 NLT
Rich is survived by the love of his life, Jomarie; his 4 children, Melody (Cameron) Bolduc, Gina Monteiro (Frank Pisano), newlywed Richard (Erin) Monsorno II, and Jason Monsorno (Meagan Oelke); and his sister, Diana Laukaitis (Bill). He will also be remembered fondly by his grandchildren, Evie and Christiana. He is predeceased by his parents, Silvio and Frances Monsorno.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 23, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd Jacksonville, FL 32223.
