Richard Carl Pace, 62, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home after a difficult but courageous battle with cancer. A son of the late James Thomas and June Cothran Pace, Richard was a Jacksonville native and a 1973 graduate of Raines High School. Growing up, he loved animals and was known for bringing home “strays” and keeping them as his own. He continued that love into adulthood. After attending FJC he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in History from UNF. A member of the former Garden City Baptist Church his love of sports was evidenced in his playing softball for the church for several years. After over 20 years of service, Richard had retired from Anheuser-Busch. Richard enjoyed working in his yard, gardening and sports of all kinds, even if he was just watching a ballgame. He took pride in his yard work and it was even said he may have been at his happiest when he was working in the yard. However, that yard work did not over shadow the love he had for his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his granddaughter, “Layla Bug”. Richard also enjoyed painting. He will be remembered for his scenes of beaches, sunsets and the mountains. His surviving family includes: his wife, Lorrie Moore Pace; a daughter, Lauren (Melvin) Richards; 2 sons, Christopher James Pace and Logan Anthony Richards; a sister, Diane Pace; a brother, Joel Pace and of course, his granddaughter, Layla Johnson. As was his wish, Richard will be cremated. His family is planning a memorial service to be held at a later time. Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 1426 Rowe Ave.
