

Robert Augustus “Gus” Hebb passed away on August 28th, 2010. Gus was the youngest son of Harry Wallace and Frances LeBaron Hebb, and was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville for eighty five years. He attended Robert E. Lee High School, the University of Florida and was an active member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, where he was an usher.
Gus enlisted in the US Air Force in 1943 and immediately enrolled in flight school. He was the Air Force’s youngest candidate at that time to receive his Wings. He served in Germany and attained the rank of Captain.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean of 57 years and two brothers, Harry Wallace and John Francis Hebb.
Gus is survived by his daughters, Peggy Bacalis (Steve) of Jacksonville, and Linda Ragsdale (Daniel) of Roswell, Georgia and three grandchildren, Lauren and Steven Bacalis and Robert Hebb Ragsdale.
The family would like to recognize and thank Gus ‘ caregivers, Denise Wilson, Phyllis Mack, the staff of Someplace Like Home and Community Hospice of NE FL for all the love and care they gave Gus and his family.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, September 1st at 10:00 am at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 1773 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32210.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Matthew’s Catholic Church or Community Hospice of NE FL, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. , Jacksonville, FL 32257.
