Robert L. Hiler, Sr, 84, a resident of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Monday October 17, 2022 at home of heart failure. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio and attended classes at The Ohio State University. He served his country in the Marine Corp Reserve. Robert started with Ohio Bell at a young age as a lineman and worked his way into management roles and eventually transferred to AT&T/American Transtech in Jacksonville, retiring as Director of Direct Marketing after 34 years of service. He went on to own and operate River City Pay Phones, worked in security, and spent the last 11 years working for Ace Hardware as the Stihl expert.
Over the years he enjoyed such activities as scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, skiing, hunting, riding motorcycles, a Jags season ticket holder, and he rooted for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He especially enjoyed the NASCAR experience multiple times as a driver at high speed and as a ride-along. He was also a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying small aircraft. He looked forward to spending time with his family on a regular basis, breaking bread, joking, recalling funny movie quotes, reminiscing and telling stories on and about each other, bringing even more laughter to the table.
As he raised his children, among many things, was active coaching soccer, softball and baseball and was involved in the kids 4-H activities showing horses and steers.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara, his children Robert Hiler, Jr., Rowdy (Lisa) Hiler, Tanya (Jerry) Pudlewski, Nicole (Terry) Sadowski, and Craig Hiler, 2 stepchildren John Kane and Liz (Rob) Bowman, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother Denis (Vangie) Hentrich and his former spouse Danna Hiler. He is predeceased by his grandson Patrick Pudlewski, his brother Benny Hiler and his beloved dog Princess.
