

Robert (Bob) Van Der Mallie, 79, passed away on April 16, 2025, in his home. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and raised in Spencerport, NY. Bob graduated from Spencerport Central School in June of 1963.
After high school, Bob served in the United States Coast Guard from July 1965 until October 1969 serving in Anchorage, Alaska, and New Smyrna Beach, FL. Bob began his 26-year career with the Florida Marine Patrol in Jacksonville, FL in 1970. Bob had a distinguished career and received many awards and honors. Bob was a certified State Instructor for the Florida Marine Patrol and a United States Coast Guard licensed Captain, commanding a 47-foot offshore patrol boat.
In 1977 Bob pursued his goal of getting a college degree. In 1980 he received his AS Degree from Florida Jr. College and went on to get his BA degree from the University of North Florida. He did this by attending evening classes while working full-time and helping to raise his sons.
Bob enjoyed life! ….spending time with his sons Rob and Doug, camping, traveling, playing
tennis, and watching his beloved NY Yankees and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and his home displays many of his hunting and fishing trophies. Bob enjoyed traveling, his hunting camp in SC, fishing lodge in Nicaragua, reading, fine wine, champagne, cooking and grilling. His home was a gathering place for friends and family.
Bob is survived by his surviving ex-wife Martha, Van Der Mallie; their two sons, Rob and Doug; first cousin and best friend, Steve Van Der Mallie; his partner, Bobbi Wilson, and her granddaughters, Madi and Olivia; and his countless friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert John Van Der Mallie; and mother, Grace Eileen Van Der Mallie.
We find comfort in knowing Bob’s legacy lives on through the love he shared with his family, the lessons he taught us, and the memories he leaves behind.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 11am, at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel,11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223, with a reception to follow at Bob’s home.
