

Robert graduated from Forsyth High School, and then served in the Marine Corps from 1961 to 1965, and was honorably discharged achieving the rank of Sergeant E5. He met his wife, Shirley while working at the Warner Robbins Air Force Base. They married on April 6th, 1963 and were happily married for 57 years before Shirley passed in 2020. He worked at the Naval Air Rework Facility at Jacksonville NAS for 29 years before retiring in 1987. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Riverside Lodge and a Shriner with the Scottish Rite, and a Fellowcraft Instructor in the 1970s. After retiring, he enjoyed playing golf, watching the Georgia Bulldogs football games, and spending time with his grandsons.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Elisa Watts Mitchell and son-in-law Ted David Mitchell Sr., his grandson Ted David Mitchell Jr. and granddaughter-in-law Victoria Marsh Mitchell, his grandson Jacob David Mitchell; his brother Kenneth Watts and sister-in-law Estella Watts, his sister Beverly Watts Rulli and brother-in-law Joe Rulli, his sister-in-law Barbara Brown and brother-in-law Frank Brown, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4th, 2022 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. A memorial service will follow at noon at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Richard Carney.
