

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, Roger LeRoy Gieger passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 79. Roger was born in New Haven, Connecticut on March 7, 1943, to Joseph Charles Gieger and Lena Martha Meyers Gieger. He graduated from Coral Gables High School in Miami. He joined the Air Force, where he served for four years until he was honorably discharged. He then had all four of his children and worked to provide as a single father. Roger delivered newspapers, drove a school bus, and worked at The Florida Times-Union as a plate maker. After retiring from The Florida Times-Union, he never stopped working. He became a full-time Papa. His favorite hobbies included being with family, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and taking his boat out on the river. He was known as Roger, Dad, Mr. G, Uncle Roger, and Papa. He was a sarcastic old grump, but he was also one of the most caring people you would ever meet.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lena Gieger; and his brothers, Donald and Robert Gieger.
Roger is survived by his siblings, Allan Gieger Sr. (Cathy) and Susan Makalous (Ray); children, Roger Gieger (Tammy), Jeff Gieger (Jen), Lori Lindsey (Kevin), and Shelley Lindsey (Sean); grandchildren, Kayla Gieger, Kenny Johnson (Breanna), Kara Oliver (Tyler), Dallas Gieger, Kevin Lindsey Jr. (Jordan Campbell), Piper Vickery (Hunter), Parker Lindsey, Abigail Gieger, and Allissa Gieger; great-grandchildren, Rayelynn Johnson, Apphia Finch, and Emersyn Oliver; niece, Christy Gieger; and numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Roger was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather (Papa), and great-grandfather. He will be missed by the very many who loved him.
Roger will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
