Russell was born on August 4, 1932 in Roscoe, Nebraska.
He was predeceased by his parents William and Mildred Luedke, sister Dorothy Wade, and daughter Diana Luedke.
Russell joined the US Navy in 1949 serving his country in the area of mine warfare and underwater demolitions. Over his lifetime, he held many positions that included serving as a police officer, security officer, and even a small business owner. In Jacksonville, he worked for Potlatch Corporation for over 20 years and ended his working years as a chauffeur for Dana’s Limousine.
Russell was an active member of Tenth Street Baptist Church for many years and a faithful member of East Pointe Church for the last 30 years. Russell always enjoyed making others smile but may mostly be remembered for his love of anything chocolate.
Russell is survived by his wife of 22 years, Judy; daughter Barbara Hanna (Nick); sons Kenneth Luedke (Chris) and Russell C. Luedke (Jennifer); Adam Powell (Kim) and Daniel Powell, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and nephew Tate Eldridge. He will be missed by many special friends and his trusty sidekick, Bif.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, August 8, 2021 at East Pointe Church, Pastor David Patrick officiating. A “dessert social” will follow at the church in honor of Russ’ love of sweets. A private graveside ceremony will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. Corey-Kerlin is in charge of arrangements.
Russell’s family would like to thank Community Hospice and AccentCare Home Health Services for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Russell’s name can be made to Community Hospice and East Pointe Church.
Russell’s greatest desire was to be known as a “sweet old man.” Please remember him that way.
