It is with great sorrow to announce, Samuel Michael DeLeo passed away on August 30, 2024 peacefully asleep in his home. Sam's death took place in St. Johns, FL with just recently celebrating his birthday at the age of 76. He was born and raised in Lebanon, PA on August 23, 1948, son of Vivian and Michael DeLeo.
Sam served in the Army and Air Force with a 32 year long career in logistics. Before proudly enlisting, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Millersville University of Pennsylvania including several post graduate programs. He and his wife, Denise had just celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary together on his birthday.
Sam retired in 2007 and thoroughly enjoyed his daily Starbucks with a newspaper. He was an avid reader of all news and wanted to ensure his family was well informed and always protected. He returned to Pennsylvania frequently to visit his friends and father. He was an amazingly kind man - "Everyone loves Sam!” He was a lifelong Hershey Bears ice hockey fan. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren playing sports, supporting their educations and careers. He loved being a Grandpa and cheered on the “Game Of Life” for his entire family. He truly loved traveling with his wife by exploring new and adventurous places. He was proud to arrange for his family to obtain their dual Italian citizenship.
As his 3 children called him Pops, we know he is now living his best life with his father, mother, late son in law, and his bulldog of 12 years old, Bruno. Sam was predeceased by his father, Michael DeLeo; his mother, Vivian DeLeo; and son-in-law, Gerry Wilkes. He is survived by his wife, Denise Weitzel DeLeo, his children Danielle Wilkes (Rich Uhrie), Gregory DeLeo (Miriah Mather), and LeslieAnn DeLeo (Brad Rolph) with beloved grandchildren Davis, Delaney, Collins Wilkes and James, Connor and Matthew Uhrie.
His funeral arrangements will be a private mass and burial at Jacksonville National Cemetery in honor of his service to our country and 76 years of life.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be supporting a local bulldog rescue in honor Sam’s multiple bull dogs in his life. Pops bought the finest food and treats for his bulldogs, so in his honor these generous donations will be allocated towards those foods and treats at this rescue.
