Sergia Alvarado Bonilla, age 97, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away April 15, 2020. She was born September 9, 1922 in Monteca, El Salvador. She was the fifth child out of ten siblings of Francisco Alvarado Cruz y Juana Fortunata Bonilla de Alvarado. She is also the last of the ten Alvarado children who now dwell with God.
She left this life surrounded by family and love due to natural causes. Sergia was a very healthy person until she suffered a stroke back in July 2018.
She immigrated to New York at the age of 55 in January 1977, accompanied by two of her children, Daniel Armando and Dinora. Sergia was welcomed in the USA by her other two children, Jesus Enrique and Berta, in Long Island, New York.
She enjoyed being a grandmother and was devoted to empowering all her grandchildren. Sergia always taught dignity as one of the greatest virtues. She was a devote Roman Catholic and her prayer life was one of her charisms. As a little girl, she would sing the rosary with her family and she taught this devotion to all her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook, bake, garden, watch television, and travel. She was a skilled seamstress and had business savviness.
Sergia had an unwavering devotion to her four children and each them embody some of her distinct qualities, such as family values, entrepreneurship, and hard work. She was the beloved mother of Jesus Enrique, Berta Noemy, Daniel Armando, Dinora Maribel, Milagro Angelica, and set of twins, Juan and Juana. Her treasured grandchildren, Jesus Edgardo, Jenny, Elizabeth, Karina, Milton Mauricio, Napoleon, Gesenia, Daniel Armando, Luchelly, Denise, Eder Efrain, Johanna Sergia, Dinora Marisela. Her legacy, the great-grandchildren, Sophia, Camilla, Katherine, Inigo, Juniper, Adeline, Kayla, Katelyn, Peter, Daniel, David, Dominick, Andrew, Anthony, Wilson, Andrea, Thalia, Milton, Christian, Ariana, Nicholas, Carolina, Daniella, Phoenix, Maeva, Kaiya, Izabelle and Adrianna.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 19th at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Florida followed by the Rite to Christian Burial on April 20th in Jacksonville, Florida. Sergia always made family and church the cornerstone of society. You will be missed; and as your children we all know we will see you soon. Rest in Peace! Our Lady of Peace pray for us!
The family of Sergia would like to give a very special thanks to her caregivers and Northeast Florida Community Hospice for the professional care, comfort, and compassion she received during the final years of her life. Also, a special thanks for Father Rodolfo Godinez for always ministering to Sergia with the Holy Sacraments. We are grateful for his closeness.
