SHERRILL “EUNICE” HARRINGTON, 89, passed from this life June 9, 2015, in Jacksonville. She was born on October 12, 1925, in Day, Florida and was the daughter of Stephen Burnham Putnal and Celestia (Lessie) Stephens Putnal. Eunice was preceded in death by her brothers, Curtis and Clinton Putnal and sisters, Etha Hart and Ouida Packard; husbands, Raymond L. Mixon, Joseph M. Goff, Sr., and Clifford E. Harrington. She is survived by her son, Joseph Murray Goff, Jr. (Michele); daughter, Diane Goff Maury (Ron); four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and looking forward to the birth of her ninth great grandchild in August. Eunice was a Christian from an early age, and she shared her faith openly. She loved her church and her church family dearly. She graduated from Jacksonville University in 1961 and later she earned a master’s degree in counseling. She was an employee of the Duval County School system for thirty-five years. She loved being a teacher and a guidance counselor. She took a personal interest in all of the students that she served, and she encouraged them all to believe in themselves. Eunice always went the extra mile for each one of the young people who were placed in her care. A member of the DAR and the UDC, she was proud of her heritage and could rightfully be called a genealogy expert. All who had the opportunity to know and love Eunice were always inspired to achieve the best that life had to offer. Her children feel that they were truly blessed to be raised by a mother who taught by example to have a strong work ethic and to always do what is right. It is character-molding values such as these that they will be eternally grateful for. The family would like to thank Carolyn “June” LaRock, caregiver and first cousin, who took excellent care of Eunice and enabled her to live in her own home; Dr. Louis Akra, who took wonderful care of her for the past fifteen years. Her life was immeasurably better because of him and his staff; and the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent’s Hospital for their compassionate care during her last days. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeshore Church of Christ, 1796 Old Middleburg Road N., Jacksonville, Fla. A private interment will be at Brewer Lake Baptist Church Cemetery in Day, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage Giddens Funeral Home 729 S. Edgewood Ave. Jacksonville, FL 32205 (904) 388-2711
