He passed away on April 20th, 2024 at the age of 96.
Gene joined the Red Cross Life Saving Corps in 1947 and was honorably retired after 9 years of service as an instructor, achieving the designation of "Retired Surfman". He was also in the United States Naval Reserve submarine service for 8 years. Gene had a long and successful career in the menswear business all over the south, then retired from the real estate business in Jacksonville.
Gene was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Delmarie Smith Sleap and his son Stephen Fredrick Sleap.
He is survived by son Adam Eugene Sleap (Sylvia), grandson Gary Eugene Sleap (Katy), great grandsons Silas, Liam, and Rowen, as well as Nephew Dave Sleap (Janice) with his children Michael Sleap, and Becky Sleap Abinsay (Steve) as well as their families.
Gene's memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal on May 11th at 11AM, with a reception to follow at The Hardage Giddens Lodge in Oaklawn Cemetery.
