Stephen E. Lynch passed away suddenly on July 31, 2015 at Orange Park Medical Center, Orange Park, Florida. Born in Newton, Massachusetts on September 21, 1952, he was the youngest child and only son of Albert F. and Martha E. (Miller) Lynch. After graduating from Watertown High School in 1970, he enlisted in the Navy. A true world-traveler, Steve was a Vietnam Veteran and was stationed at the following commands throughout his 27-year Navy career:

Steve attained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Office and was awarded the following:

He considered his tour of duty at the ASWOC in Bermuda not only his best professionally, as he achieved the rank of Chief and was also certified as a “Watch Officer”, the first person in his career field to have attained this certification, but also best personally. It was in Bermuda that he met his wife, Kathy. Steve and Kathy married in March 1983 at the Naval Air Station Chapel Bermuda. His son Michael was born in Bermuda in February 1984. After transferring to VP1 in Hawaii, Steve and Kathy welcomed a second son, Andrew in December 1985.
In 1991, several duty stations later, Steve and his family set permanent anchor in Jacksonville, Florida. Steve was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and was an active volunteer at the weekly BINGO games in the church hall, even serving as a “caller”. He was seen during carnival weekends working in the Holy Name booth and even served as the “Town Crier” to open the annual carnival in 2014. He served in the lector ministry and was a RCIA sponsor.
After his retirement in 1997, he was briefly employed by Chuck E. Cheese as an animatronics engineer and then began an 18 year career with Logistics Services International (LSI). While working full-time, Steve completed his bachelor’s degree in Technical Management from Embrey Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida, graduating in 2007. The year 2015 brought about a change in employment and he briefly was employed by CDI. At the time of his death he was employed by ASEC.
Steve’s life touched so many people and he leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 32 years, Kathy (Lechleitner); his two sons – Michael (Nikki) and Andrew (Meredith); five grandchildren: Jared (7), Hope (6), Loriann (3), Lucas (23 months) and Adam (20 months); his three sisters – Charlotte (Bob), Nancy (Bob), and Roberta (Wayne); many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5752 Blanding Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation with the family will take place between 9:00- - 10:00 am. Interment will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery @ 2:30 pm.
