

Susan Butterworth Ruble, born on November 14, 1937, in Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at the age of 86 in Saint Johns, Florida where she was a resident of Westminster Woods on Julington Creek. She was known for her love of life, family, and friends, often being the heart of any gathering with her infectious laughter and adventurous spirit.
In her youth in Denver Colorado, Susan attended Park Hill Elementary and then continued at East High School, graduating in 1954. She later attended the University of Denver on a scholarship, was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority where she made lifelong friends, earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1958, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, she was an English teacher at Rishel Middle School in Denver, followed by time as a proofreader/editor at Lippincott Publishing. Above all, she cherished her role as homemaker, mother, and especially as Grandma Suey, earning the nickname Suey Poppins.
During their years in Central Florida, she enjoyed being a member of the Oviedo Women's Club, The Oviedo Garden Club, the Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park, and the Geneva Village Homemakers. She enjoyed the fellowship, singing and worship at First Methodist Church of Oviedo and later at Geneva Methodist Church in Geneva, Florida.
Susan's hobbies were diverse, including gardening, reading, playing bridge, and enjoying theater and movies. She had a love for animals and a keen interest in the stock market. She also loved to travel, especially with family to New Smyrna Beach, and often to other destinations around the world.
She is survived by her loving children, Debbie (Rod) Round, Mike (Cherryl) Ruble, and Cindy (Cliff) Lucas; her cherished grandchildren, Hayley Round, Ian (Anna) Round, Oliver Round, Emily Ruble, Rachel Ruble, and Cary Lucas. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank "Ted" Ruble, their son Peter Ruble, her parents, Tom and Alice Butterworth, and her sisters, Nan Ellsworth and Jane Reynolds.
Her ashes will be laid to rest at Oviedo Methodist Cemetery in January 2025, at which time a memorial service will also take place. Details will be shared with friends and family in due course.
