Sylvia Allen Powers, age 67, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida. Sylvia was born December 10, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated in 1964 from Southern Adventist College, in Collegedale, TN with a B.S. in nursing. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Stephen IV and her daughter Janelle Ubel and her two sons Stephen V and Michael. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Roy and Rose Allen and her brothers Oliver (Sonny) and Roy Jr. (Tucky) Allen. She was retired from Memorial Hospital after 31 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was very active in her church and community including the March of Dimes and Meals on Wheels. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, 2137 Hendricks Ave. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the McGraw Center c/o N. E. Florida Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL. 32257.
