It is with profound sadness that the family of Theresa Dickelman announces her passing on April 27, 2025, at the age of 97. Theresa was a beacon of kindness and thoughtfulness who served as her family's North Star. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Kathleen Dickelman and Lisa Foster; her son-in-law, Robert Foster; her brother, John Obbagy; sister-in-law, Carole Obbagy; and nieces, Jennifer Obbagy and Susan Obbagy. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edwin Dickelman, and her brother, William Obbagy, who passed in 2024.
Born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1928, Theresa immigrated to the United States in 1934 and proudly became an American citizen in 1949. Raised in Cleveland, Ohio, she later lived in Philadelphia before she and Edwin made Tampa, Florida, their cherished home for 45 years.
Throughout her fulfilling career, Theresa served as the Membership Coordinator for the Brandon Chamber of Commerce and Community Events Editor for the Tampa Tribune. Following her retirement, she dedicated herself to community service, volunteering with ECHO, where she was honored with the Spirit of Volunteerism Award by the Board of Directors in 2006. She generously gave her time to Life's Treasures Thrift Store in her community.
Theresa embraced life's simple pleasures with enthusiasm and grace. She found joy in gardening, preparing elaborate family and holiday dinners, reading the newspaper from cover to cover, losing herself in novels set in exotic locations, and watching her favorite PBS programs. Known for her impeccable sense of style, Theresa had a special talent for accessorizing and always completed her outfits with the perfect finishing touches. She cherished the family cruise vacations that created lasting memories for all.
Together with her husband Edwin, Theresa was deeply community-focused, firmly believing in the importance of volunteerism and giving back. Their unwavering loyalty to friends was legendary, cultivating relationships that enriched their lives and the lives of those around them for decades.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children at 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, in memory of Edwin and Theresa Dickelman. A memorial service celebrating Theresa's remarkable life will be held at a later date.
