

Teresa G. Thornton aged 77 years went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, August 22, 2024, with family by her side. Teresa was born on July 17, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida to Wilbur S. and Helen E. (Lafferty) Thornton. Teresa graduated from the University of North Florida in 1989 majoring in Biology, minoring in Literature and earning her BA in Natural Science. Teresa worked for Prudential Insurance Company in Jacksonville, FL from January 1966 until September 1983. She started out as a file clerk working her way up to High-Level Technician. Teresa’s interests were varied and included her volunteer work with the American Cancer Society from 1974 to 1978 and Hospice Northeast from 1994 until shortly before her death. She received spiritual rewards as a caregiver to many people, was regularly active with her church family at Assumption Catholic Church and deeply faithful to God. Teresa is survived by her sister Mary Ellen (Paul) Hutchins of Jacksonville, FL; her nieces Anita (Tom) Loudermill, Grace Reger, Deborah (Jose) Copado, Patricia Thornton, Mary Katherine Bruno, Sharon (Joe) Chan, and Vivian (Donald) Heath; her nephews Gary Hutchins, William (Peggy) Smith, John (Carol) Thornton Jr., Robert (Susan) Thornton, and Daid Thornton; 16 Grand nieces and nephews; and 9 Great-Grand nieces and nephews. Teresa was preceded in death by her sister Jean (Bill) Smith; her brothers Edward F. (Mary Kay) Thornton Sr., Wilbur S. Thornton Jr., Aden R. Thornton, and John L. Thornton Sr.; and her nephews Patrick B. Thornton and Edward F. Thornton Jr. Visitation will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home (940 Cesery Blvd, Jacksonville, FL) on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 5pm until 7pm. Funeral services will be held at Assumption Catholic Church (2431 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL) on Saturday, August 31, 2024, Viewing at 10am, Mass at 11am, followed by burial services at Oaklawn Cemetery (4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL) In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of her favorite charities; American Cancer Society, Hospice Northeast, ASPCA, Wounded Warriors Foundation; or a charity of your own choosing in her name.
