

Born and raised in Aurora, North Carolina, Tom proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. In World War II, he served aboard the USS South Dakota, as a signalman. After serving his country, Tom began a career in the flooring industry in Minneapolis, MN, before retiring in 1986. For several years, he pursued his love of travelling with his wife, Muriel, before settling down in Jacksonville, FL, in 2007. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Oceanway.
He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas Mayhew Bonner, Sr., and Jessie Whitehurst Bonner, sisters, May Bonner, Selma Voliva and Jay Burkett, and brother, Merle "Brad" Bonner. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 67 years, Muriel Winger Bonner, children, Thomas Bonner, III., Marsha Jacques (Douglas), Patrick Bonner (Keri), and Sandra Barrett (Fred), sisters, Jackie Ensley and Evelyn Hollowell, brother, Brian Bonner, Grandchildren, Thomas, Douglas, Jason, Fred, Nicholas, Melissa, Jacob, Samuel, John, and Annalisa, 11 great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 11, from 6 - 8pm, at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, 4315 Main St. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 12, at 11am at First Baptist Church of Oceanway, followed with graveside military honors at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
