

Walter Thomas (Tom) Boney, 86, a cherished figure of our community, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, with his devoted wife of 66 years, Mickey Ogden Boney, by his side at Beach House Assisted Living in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He was born to Clarke Howell and Evelyn Boney in Savannah, Georgia on May 6, 1937. He met his high school sweetheart, Mickey, during his years at Andrew Jackson High School, where he also played varsity football. His football journey continued at South Georgia College, where he played under the legendary coach, Bobby Bowden.
Tom’s life was a testament to his unwavering dedication as a husband, father, grandfather (Medad), brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and a cherished friend to many. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, FL and shared his Christian beliefs both in the community and abroad through the Christian Light Foundation.
Following his retirement as Superintendent of the Jacksonville Recreation Department, Tom ventured into the realm of commercial real estate, which later led him to develop residential subdivisions, specializing in waterfront communities.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Mickey Ogden Boney, daughter Cheryl Boney Turknett (James), son Walt Boney (Angela), son Billy Boney (Elaine), eight grandchildren, Lee Archer, Lyle Archer, Alex Barie, Katie Barie, Thomas Boney, Amber Boney Hood, Olivia Boney Henderson, Will Boney and fourteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Boney Bramlitt, as well as a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his brothers, George Frank Boney and Clarke Howell Boney.
The viewing will be held at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL, Thursday, April 18th from 5:00-7:00 PM.
The funeral service will be held at Franklin Street Baptist Church, 2521 Franklin Street, Jacksonville, FL, Friday, April 19th at 11AM.
The burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
