My prayers to Vernon's family.  I have very fond memories of Vernon (and Jimmy), whom I met as a rookie officer.  He was both kind and helpful to me during my career, always there to help and share his knowledge and wisdom.  Rest in peace brother, you finished the race and was a good and faithful servant.

I was a classmate with Vernon at Southside Grammar School and Landon Jr./Sr. High School.  He was a well-liked guy and had many friends.  My son, Bobby, worked with him when he worked as a robbery detective in JSO.  He was wall respected.  Vernon was the key leader for our Landon Class of 1957 reunions and always did a great job.  He will be greatly missed!

 Last time I saw Vernon was during my Dad's finally days. I can remember good conversation about the Branch and Smyth family. Rest in peace and condolences to the Branch family. 

Everett & I loved the time we shared with Vernon and Charlotte, he was truly a giant that loved life and his family.  Our heart goes out to Charlotte and the family.

Steve and I are so sorry to hear of Vernon’s passing. He was larger than life and we have such great memories of him and Charlotte. One of the great one's, I can remember Vernon and my dad (Lynwood Roberts) cooking at the Prevent Blindness BBQ for many years and then for the past 25 years or so I have helped with the cooking and always looked forward to being around the old guys and listening to their stories. I only have about four months to my 50th year with JSO and remember Vernon very well!   He was always very kind to me and always called me Yankee! I also worked for his brother Jimmy, who also was very kind  to me.  It is very sad that such Legends are gone.
    I pray that when my time comes that I will meet them again in Heaven.    My prayers go out to his family at this hard time.

I first met Vernon and Charlotte through the Safari Club in Jacksonville and then became neighbors on Julington Creek.
Later I was able to help rebuild his dock so he could get back out to the River again after Irma took most of it down.
I will miss him dearly, he was a Great and Very Kind Man.

I am sadden to read about Vernon's passing.  I got to know Vernon (and his brother Jimmy) as a rookie with the JSO in 1970.  Through out my career Veron was always there to answer my questions and guide me untill his retirment.  His kindess ment a lot to me during my career and I will be forever thankful for him being my friend.  He and Jimmy always stood out a fine officers and gentlmen, always there to help.  When Vernon retired the JSO lost a great officer and now at his passing this world lost a great man.
My prayers to the family and know that Vernon was loved and respected by many.

Mr. Branch was a great role model to me and my son Joseph. He was one of my dad’s best friends.  He had a great sense of humor and shared many life experiences with us. We will miss him.

I met Vernon when I was 15. That would have been in 1957.
He actually introduced me to my husband of 60 years. 
He was the kindest, sweetest man I have  ever met.
Charlotte and I went to high school together at DuPont. 
I wore her dress to my prom with my now husband David  in 1960.
So many great memories to lean on.

I met Vernon in 1962, when I was working at the Sheriff's Office  and Vernon was attending Court hearings.  Years later, after I had transferred to the Fire - Rescue Department, I worked with Vernon when he was assigned to the Office of General Counsel.  Vernon always met you with a smile and good story, ranging from recent police activities to hunting and fishing, and sometime "the latest political news".  Vernon was from a family with a rich tradition of police service.  In addition to serving his City with his long and distinguished career with the JPD and JSO, Vernon served his Country.  During and after his law enforcement career Vernon served his fellow officers with leadership roles in the Police Credit Union and the Florida Credit Union League. I was able to gain many valuable insights into Credit Union operations from Vernon. May he rest  in the Peace of Our Lord.

Dear Ron and Tanya,
    It is with a very heavy heart I offer my deepest sympathy for your loss.  
    Your dad and I spent most of our adult life partnered at JPD and Duval SO. A true friend is one who can be distanced apart and yet when me met, it was like we were never apart. 
    We spent much leisure time hunting, fishing together.   Always a good time.  
    I pray for God’s comfort in this trying time. 




Vernon was a dear friend for many years. We hunted and fished together in Florida, Colorado, Alabama and Georgia. Always a great man to spend time with. Condolences to Charlotte, Ronnie and Tanya.

i knew Vernon from Homeroom on, worked with him in the Mayor's Office, thanks to his efforts, we had a string of successful high school reunions. My sympathy , thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

My deepest sympathy.  When I received the text Saturday  - I was in total disbelieve! Vernon was Superman - he was suppose to live forever! My heart broke. I was blessed to meet Vernon in the 90's when I was working in the Burglary Unit @ JSO. We quickly became friends & then family. I knew if I needed anything  - I could call on Vernon. He always had a listening ear & would gladly give you his opinion  on everything . He was a GREAT mentor & a true gentleman.  After his retirement  - we stayed in touch - I'd call him every year to wish him a happy birthday.  I'll miss making that call......I'll miss him. Miss Charlotte  -  sending you hugs & prayers. God certainly received a special Angel. 

Ron - I’m so very sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. Since I first met him, I knew he was a very special man who served J.S.O. and the citizens of Duval county with Pride & Honor. He reminded me a lot of my own Father who was also in Law Enforcement during those same years. Vernon was truly one of the last of the real lawmen.

I know you two were close, which means you have many tremendous memories to help get you through these hard times.     My condolences to you and your family, as I keep you all in my  thoughts and prayers.  Love ya Brother!

I can’t remember the first time I met Mr.Vernon but I can tell you it was a fun time. It’s hard to think this kind hearted loving soul who we all loved is gone. I met Mr.Vernon through the Duval laymen’s Association,and through my grandfather. Mr.Vernon always made me feel special about being one of the only girls out there and told me that it was something and that one day I’d know why. I’ll see you one day sir fly high we all love you 🖤💙🖤

I met Vernon in the early 70's when i was an undercover officer in narcotics. Vernon always had some wisdom to impart on a younger officer. (None of which i wish to share here.) I have been a member of the Duval Lawmans sportsmans association since just after it began. I had many laughs at the club during those days with him. Vernon and i made several trips to Alabama together and shared many hours together while hunting. I will miss my good friend very much and will see him again one day for another hunt.

Mr Branch  IS my HERO and we had the pleasantry of meeting each other through unpleasant circumstances due to our professions of law enforcement. It was 1995 when he and Charlotte heard about of unpleasant crossing paths and came to see me in Winston-Salem, NC. He helped me heal through a process he overcame due to the same subject. We met, hugged, cried and I became a family member of his and his family with mine. He is truly what I wanted to strive towards, decorated and respected man of law enforcement. I came to Jacksonville approximately six years ago for a family reunion and he came to the hotel to visit so we could make a big man hug of love and respect.   I am deeply touch to hear of his home going and will miss his voice and his wisdom he passed on. My family sends prayers to the entire family and let you know we love and care about you all.

I was honored to meet Vernon at a very young age at a  hunting camp in Salt Springs Florida.Little did the young child in me realize that our friendship would last a lifetime.During that time,I also met his son,Ron.We have remained friends since that time,though I must admit that life has gotten in the way in recent years.Later in life, I became a member of The JSO.Once again,Vernon and my paths crossed.Though I never worked directly with Vernon or for him, I came to know that he was one of the greats of the organization.He was a Policeman's Policeman.In other words if you were right,he would go to bat for you in the performance of your duties.Through Vernon and Ron,I have been able to meet his entire family through the years.My Father and Vernon were good friends despite them being on opposite sides in the system of justice.Vernon was a good man and mentor to many.He will be missed.It is my prayer that God's love and your precious memories will comfort you all at this most difficult time.Please accept my deepest sympathies,as well as those of my late parents on the passing of Vernon.God Bless.

I met Vernon  over 25 years ago through his son Ron.  What a fun loving fellow Vernon was to be around.  I look forward to cutting up with him again on the other side. My condolences to the Branch family.
