

DUNCAN…….Vernon Duncan, 94, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015. He was born in Hudson, Illinois February 18, 1920 to James and Sarah Duncan. Mr. Duncan had 5 brothers; Tony, Roy, Preston, Woodrow and James and 4 sisters; Rena, Eula, Zelma and Margie. He was married 73 years to Emma. Vernon had 3 sons; Vernon (Ann), John (Ellen) and Stephen (Bonnie) and 2 daughters; Mary Anne (Dale) and Kathleen (Jimmie); 14 grandchildren, John Sol, Jim, Tom, Suzanne, Sarah, Joshua, John Dennis, James, Aimee, Lisa, Eric, Catherine, Jimbo and Duncan; and 8 great grandchildren; Emily, Maci, Michael, John Joseph, Sayward, Shawnee, Jacob and Aubrey. Vernon was dedicated to God, Family, Country, Church and Community. He served in the United States Army Infantry in World War II in the Liberation of the Philippines and was wounded on Okinawa. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and several other citations. He was a founding member of Christ The King Catholic Church and Founding member of Christ The King Knights of Columbus. Mr. Duncan retired from State Farm Insurance where he was a Regional Manager of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina and liaison to the Legislature (CPCU). Vernon was an avid golfer, volunteering at the TPC for 32 years. He loved all sports and was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. The family will receive friends at Christ The King Catholic Church starting at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 12th with the Rosary being recited at 4:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 4:30 PM following the Rosary. Mr. Duncan will be buried in Jacksonville National Cemetery at 10:30 AM Friday, February 13th with Military Honors. Arrangements are being handled by Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd.
