Victor Douglas Williams was born on March 4, 1932 in Kingston, Jamaica to Leslie and Lilybelle Williams. Douglas grew up in Kingston and attended Kingston College. An accountant by trade, after he left school, he was employed at Carman and Bruce Accounting firm on a work study internship. He went on to work at Jamaica Gypsum and Quarries Ltd as their accountant for roughly 20 years. In 1977, Douglas moved his family to the Cayman Islands and then on to Miami, Florida where he would spend the next eleven years. He moved back to Jamaica in 1988, to join his wife, Jerise, at Casual Designs Ltd.; the family garment manufacturing business. In 2000, he would once again relocate to Jacksonville, Florida, where he would live out the rest of his days.
Douglas, fondly referred to as “Dougie”, could brighten anyone’s day. If he did not have a friend when he entered a room, he most certainly had many by the time he left. His grandchildren were dear to his heart and his greatest passion. Dougie was no stranger to the kitchen. If there was not a ham in the oven, there was a pot of soup on the stove or some kind of Jamaican food. He was never without a camera, capturing moments that will live on forever. He loved jazz music and played the piano in his earlier years. An expert in the garden, he was always outdoors in the yard planting or landscaping.
Dougie passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 58 years by his side. He is survived by his wife Jerise (Jeri) Williams; his three children, David Williams, Roger Williams, and Tracy Shim; and his six grandchildren, Tasha and Kathy Williams, Alyssa and Leah Williams, and Ashleigh and Nicholas Shim.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Hardage Giddens, The Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida.
