After marrying her husband Mack Mayo on December 26, 1960, they lived in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and started their family while Mack was in the service in Ft. Carson, Colorado. Then moved to Crossett, Arkansas where Virginia loved to play softball. Shortly after, they moved to Boulder, Colorado and later began an accomplished career as a Computer Programmer, a job that she loved. She worked several years at Storage Technologies Corporation in Broomfield, Colorado until they moved to Jacksonville, Florida and continued her career working on the HR and payroll systems at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida until her retirement in 2003.
Following retirement, Virginia devoted herself fully to her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She was a constant and loving presence in their lives. Hosting many sleepovers and cheering enthusiastically on the sidelines of countless softball and soccer games, always their biggest supporter and proudest fan.
Family was at the center of Virginia’s life. Her love was unconditional, shown through her care, encouragement, and the quiet ways she made everyone feel safe and cherished.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lillian Thompson; her siblings Bill and Carolyn Thompson, Bo and Peggy Thompson, T-Joe and Kay Thompson, and Martha Farrar; and her beloved daughter, Ceanne Mayo.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Mack Mayo; brother in-law Jim Farrar; her children Tonya Pauly, Angie Darling (Steve), and Jim Schofield (son in-law); her grandchildren Alexis (Zach), Heidi(Tarl), Logan, Mark, Jessica, Danielle, Matthew, and Brett; and her great-grandchildren Mina and Irie.
Virginia will be remembered for her hard work and devotion, her strength, and boundless love. Though she is no longer with us, we all carry with us special memories and her presence remains in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
