

Walter William Kurosko “Sam,” age 92, a retired electrical engineer for AT&T, passed away on March 30, 2017 from natural causes. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Jacksonville in 1980. He graduated from Pratt Institute of Technology with a degree in electrical engineering. Walter served his country in World War II and again in the Korean Conflict. His affiliations included membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Walter was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers and a devout parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he attended mass daily. In his spare time, Walter was an avid fisherman spending many days on the water with his son and grandsons

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gloria; son, Dr. Walter (Tony) Kurosko and his wife Bonnie; daughter, Donna Stoumbelis and husband Peter. He is pre-deceased by his father, Elko; and mother, Helen who immigrated to the United States from the Ukraine in the early 1900s. He is also pre-deceased by his brother, Steven; and sisters, Ann, Olga, and Mary. Walter is survived by his five grandchildren, Steven, Carrie, Gregory, Brooke, and Erika; and his four great-grandchildren, Callie, Walter, Harper, and Leo.
Walter was a kind, humble, and generous man. His love and devotion of God and family, which he always put before his own needs, knew no bounds. His generosity to his church and community was an example to us all. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2nd with Vigil Prayers at 6:30 p.m. in Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3rd in Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Rd., Jacksonville, with Rev. Timothy Cusick as Celebrant, followed by interment in Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities, 134 E. Church St., Jacksonville, Florida or the Diocese of St. Augustine, 11625 Old St. Augustine Rd., Jacksonville, Florida 32258.
