
WEST-Walter H. West, Jr., 71, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Mr. West worked as a Safety Director with A.J. Johns, Inc. He was a member of the William B. Barnett Lodge #187, F & AM, Scottish rite bodies and Morocco Temple of the Shrine. He was a past Commander of the Flying Fezzes, member of the Golf Association and Clay County Shrine Club. Mr. West served in the U.S. Navy following the end of the Korean Conflict and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired from the U. S. Navy Reserves as a Commander and was a member of American Legion Post #400 and member of the Golf Association with the V.F.W. Mr. West was an organ donor and the family received information that he saved a child’s life the day he passed away. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, John West. A gentle loving and kind man he is survived by his daughter, Debra West; a son, Walter H. “Randy” West, III; life partner, Betty Dyal; sister, Joan West; mother of his children, Patti Fitzgerald-West; 4 grandchildren, Breanna, Jacob and Sierra West and Jenny Burnette; and 2 great grandchildren, Alan and David Burnette. Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14 in the Chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. with Chaplain Roger Dickerson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. His urn will be interred at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to “Shriner’s Hospital for Children” c/o Morocco Shrine Center, 3800 St. Johns Bluff Rd., Jax., FL 32224.
