

SHANKS, Warnie Lee (Bob), 78, passed away peacefully on Friday January 25, 2013, under the care of Community Hospice. He was born August 11, 1934 in Nortonville, KY to the late Finn and Minnie (Smith) Shanks. After graduating from Hopkinsville High School in 1953, Bob joined the United States Navy and served our country for 20 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and retired as Chief Petty Officer Ordinanceman. After retirement he was employed by Civil Service in the weapons division for 15 years.
Bob was an avid golfer and loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maxine; 5 daughters: Kim Shanks, Beverly Sutton (Bill), Lana Wimberly (Glynn), Rhonda Kemp (Al), Sonia Knox (Cliff); 10 grandchildren: Ashley Wimberly Hayes (Dr. Kevin Hayes) Brad Wimberly, Chad Wimberly, Ryan Sutton, Courtney Kemp Fowler (Rod), Ashley, Caroline, Emily, C.J., and Mary Claire Knox; and one great-granddaughter Langley Hayes.
Visitation will be Monday, January 28 from 6 – 8 PM, with prayer service at 7 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 5753 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville. Funeral services celebrating his life will be Tuesday January 29 at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5152 Blanding Blvd, Fr. Victor Narivelil officiating. Burial with military honors will be Wednesday January 30 at 12:30 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
