William Edward “Bill” Cassity of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2023 with his wife and family by his side. He was born August 19th, 1934 in Charlottesville, Virginia to Kermit Ray Cassity and the former Sarah Ann Fitch. He led a full and vibrant life as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, patriot, and active member of the Jacksonville community.
After graduation from Lane High School in Charlottesville, Bill started what would become a 46-year career with State Farm Insurance. His career was paused during the Korean Conflict where he served in US Army Intelligence. After his military service he returned to State Farm where he earned his CPCU designation and rose to the position of Director of Management, Planning and Information. He earned his degree in Psychology from the University of North Florida while employed full time with State Farm.
He was a truly selfless man who always put his family first and never failed to be there with a helping hand. Of his many talents, he was an elegant ballroom dancer, toastmaster, poet, and writer. A highlight of every special family event was a reading of a specially written poem. He also thrived on a rousing political debate which he invariably won.
He is survived by the love of his life for 65 years, the former Peggy Collier, his three daughters, Sarah Roberson (John), Kathy Scott (Michael), and Becky O’Steen (David), his sister Shirley, 11 grand children, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Matthew and Mary Bryce, two brothers Gene and Donald, and his sister Faye. A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
