

McEUEN---Rev. William Richard McEuen (Dick) 87, died on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015. He was born in Hannibal, MO to Henry and Lela McEuen. The youngest of six children; Lela Madelene, Mary Pauline, Henry Arnold, Lowell Eugene, and John Francis. He began his college education in 1945 at Missouri Valley College. In 1946 Dick joined the Army and served in the Army of Occupation in Austria.On his return, he continued his education until he was called up for the Korean War and served in the 382 General Hospital in Japan. After the war he returned to college graduating in 1954, he then enrolled at Dubuque Theological Seminary and in 1957 he was ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA).He married Betty Winn in 1950 and had five children. Rebecca Sherer (Don), Rebecca predeceased him, Deborah Pauline Clay (Mike), John Kenneth McEuen (Rebecca), Mark Thomas McEuen (Susie) and Susan Elizabeth Sellards. After Seminary, Dick served churches in Iowa; New Sharon, Wilton and Sac City. He was commissioned in the Chaplain Corps of the U.S. Army in 1961 as a First Lieutenant. He served posts in Missouri, Pennsylvania, and in New York. He had overseas tours in Austria, Japan, France and Viet Nam. The Army sent him to Indiana University to prepare him for an assignment at the U.S. Army Chaplain School in New York, where he was on the staff and faculty for five years. He retired with the rank of Colonel. In retirement, he continued to serve his Church. He came to Florida to serve the church at Weirsdale and during the 80’s he served the church at Jasper, FL. After seven years at Jasper he came to Jacksonville and served the following Presbyterian Churches; Calvin, Kirkwood, Arlington, and Orange Park. He was very proud to be awarded Pastor Emeritus status at both Calvin and Arlington Churches. In his life he was active in all facets of the Boy Scouts of America including Scout master, Cub master, District Finance committee. In Kiwanis he was distinguished Secretary, distinguished President, and distinguished Lt. Governor. In his younger days he was President of and great advocate of the PTA. In 2004 he found the love of his life, Susan Michels Johnson and following the worship service at Arlington Presbyterian Church on March 21, 2004 they were married in the presence of the congregation, friends and family. In retirement Dick and Susan spent their time traveling throughout the country, taking multiple tours and cruises with their friends. They especially enjoyed their friends at Arlington Presbyterian Church and at Regency Wood Condominium. In addition to his children he is survived by 12 grandchildren; Beth Benter (Brian), Rich, Andy, Erin, Matt, Shawn, Kenney, Riley, Trevor, Dylan, David, Logan and three red headed great-grandchildren; Hayden, Hank, and Hogan.Also three step-children; Debra Boswell (Leslie), Vicki Hagler (Emory), Richard Roy “Rusty” Keighron-deceased and his wife, Belva. Two step grandchildren; Vanessa Bowers and Missie Evans and one great step granddaughter; Chloe Bowers. The family will receive friends 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday February 13th at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be held at Arlington Presbyterian Church at 1:00 PM Saturday February 14th, 2015 conducted by Rev. Craig Davies. Interment will be in Masonic Park at Crystal Lake near West Union, WV in the Susan’s family cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts should be sent to Arlington Presbyterian Church, 1351 Sprinkle Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32211.
