CW Scott, Jr. passed away Friday, April 1 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport. He was born in Jones County to the late Ward and Ruby Scott, and was 90 years of age at his passing. CW was preceded in death by his first wife: Jean Dunn Scott; second wife: Beatrice (Bea) Scott. He is survived by a daughter, Ziji Scott of Friday Harbor, Washington; stepsons: Mike (Amy) Scott of Vanceboro and Larry (Sheila) Scott of Pamlico County; sister: Becky (John) Thompson of Jacksonville; granddaughter: Erin (Brock) Cuthrell of Blount’s Creek; great grandsons: Braxton (age 6) and Zachery (age 4) Cuthrell; niece: Sue Whitley; nephews: Johnny Thompson (Kris), Scott Thompson (Melisa).
CW was a faithful member of Broad Street Christian Church and has been given the distinction of Elder-Emeritus. He was also an active member of the New Bern Lion’s Club for over sixty years where he held the positions of President, Vice-President and Treasurer as well as Cabinet Secretary.
CW was a veteran of the US Navy and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. His work history revolved around the grocery business. As a teenager he managed a small store in the Pollocksville area, and in the early 1950’s he moved to New Bern and established Scott’s Market in the Sunnyside section. In 1967 he became the General Manager of Armstrong Grocery Company and continued to work there for twenty-five plus years until his retirement and was known to many people as "Mr. Armstrong".
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Broad Street Christian Church with Dr. Laura Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family would like to thank his faithful aids, Gail Winchester and Melissa Whitford as well as the good folks at the Crystal Coast Hospice House for their kind and compassionate care of CW during his last days, also would like to thank Craven County Hospice for their care.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Broad Street Christian Church, The New Bern Lion’s Club and the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
