Family will be receiving friends at Kilgore Green on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 1 until 2 p.m. Service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Kilgore Green Chapel, with burial at Curry Cemetery. John Harbin will officiate.
Gary was born Aug. 16, 1954, and passed away after a lifetime of hard work, love and dedication. He graduated from Parrish High School in 1972 and went straight to Alabama Power at 17 years old, where he spent 46 years doing a job he truly loved.
He could fix just about anything and was the kind of handyman everyone wished they had. He even built our childhood home with his own hands — something his family was always proud of.
He was a loving husband to his wife, Amy, and a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He taught his children the value of hard work and taking pride in what you do — by not only words but by living it every single day. That lesson is something we’ll carry with us forever.
We’ll remember him for his steady presence, his work ethic and the quiet way he made life better for everyone he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Gladys Key.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Amy Key; children, Season Rice, Farrah Bass, Jordan Ingle (Chris) and Mallory Tidwell (Mason); siblings, Tim Key (Jennifer) and Shelia Smitherman; grandchildren, Garret Rice, Megan Lovett (Adam) and McKenzie Royer (Bryant); great-grandchildren, Peyton Ingle, Aiden Lovett, Emma Lovett and Knox Royer; in-laws, Rex & Bobbie Murray, Melissa Bissell and Barlane Crump (Randy); and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Justin Key, Adam Key, Veryl Graves, Mason Tidwell, Ran Crump and Chris Ingle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Access Hospice of Jasper, Alabama.
