

Joan Hoobler Powell, 84, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Novermber 4, 2020, at Walker Baptist Medical Center. Family will receive friends Saturday, November 7, 2020, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Kyle Gilpin will officiate.
Patricia Joan Hoobler was born at home to Bea and Charlie Hoobler on May 23, 1936. She shares her birthday with her identical twin sister, Patsy Jean Hoobler. Joan Hoobler graduated from Walker County High school in 1954. Before graduation, Joan married Clarence Jesse Powell, a native of Oakman, Alabama, when she was 17. They began their married life in Jasper, moved briefly to the state of Oregon and returned to West End, where she became the mother of Kathy in 1957 and Scott in 1963. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker. In 1969, Jesse and Joan decided to return to Walker County to help in the care of their parents who lived in Jasper and Oakman. In 1973, Jesse and Joan began the foster parent program and took into their home, Jimmy at 11 months. He was adopted by the Powell family when he turned 5 years old. Throughout their life, Joan was a dedicated wife and mother, loving her family and her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Jesse Powell; parents Charlie Hoobler and Beatrice Hoobler.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Powell Davidson, Clarence Scott Powell, and Jimmy Ray Powell; grandchildren, Jefferson Daniel Davidson, Lilli Grace Powell; great grandchild, Capri Ann Davidson; and siblings, Patsy Jean Hepler, and Terry Richmond Hoobler.
Pallbearers will be Jim Davidson, Jefferson Davidson, Jesse Gann, Jimmy Powell, Michael Brown, and Garry Gaskin.
