A Graveside Service for friends and family will be Tuesday, October 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Sipsey, with John Drummond, Jr. officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Dr. Jim Barton, Dr. Tres Childs, John Cadden, Steve Colley, Russell Drummond, Captain Bobby Miley, Mitch Nicholson, Chris Sherer and Andy Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be The Honorable Scott Coogler, Randy Dobbs, Jimmy Lee, Sylvester Rhodes, Shorty Smith, Bobby Songer and the employees of Callaway Farm.
Scott attended Walker High School and then earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Microbiology at the University of Alabama. He then furthered his education by earning his Medical Doctorate at UAB School of Medicine. Scott’s desire to help others led him to build, operate and manage Southeastern Cancer Network which housed rural cancer clinics for underserved communities.
One of his favorite things to do was to burn diesel fuel through his bulldozers and tractors, but this was secondary to his innate desire to help others. While he loved hunting and fishing, his passion was sharing it with the children of family and friends, including sponsoring and guiding trips for children with special needs and for those who would have otherwise never had the opportunity to do so. For all of his accomplishments, the one that meant a great deal to him was being able to help others. The light he radiated and his kind heart will be missed by all who knew him and those who did not.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Walker Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 171, Jasper, AL 35502.
