Tracey McCullar Byerley passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026. She was born on February 23, 1942, in Fairfield, Alabama, to Barney and Juanita McCullar. Tracey graduated from Hueytown High School in 1960 and spent most of her life in Hueytown, Alabama, where she lovingly raised her children and built a home centered on faith, family, and kindness.
Tracey devoted her working years to serving others, first at the Bessemer YMCA and later at Samford University in the Computer Services department. A longtime member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, she deeply cherished her church community and always considered them family. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unconditional love for those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Juanita McCullar; her brother, Ronald McCullar; and her beloved YaYa Sisters—Royce Busenlehner, Nita Patterson, and Carol Ruth Devore.
Tracey is survived by her husband, Leon Byerley; her brother, Richard McCullar; her children and their spouses: Michael and Carol Herren, Jason and Lisa Herren, Heath and Alison Townsend, Brad and Elizabeth Byerley, and Carlisle and Beth O’Meara; her grandchildren: Andy Herren; Hunter and Rachel Townsend; Jake and Lis Herren; Josh Townsend; Luke Herren; Maddie Herren; Emory and Owen O’Meara; Morgan and Jackson Byerley; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson Townsend and Remi Mae Townsend. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Martha McCullar and Jeanette McCullar; her YaYa Sisters—Celeste Stewart, Ann Tysinger, and Lynn Tennyson; and many other cherished family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper, Alabama, on Saturday, January 17th at 1:00PM CST. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the residents at NHC Hendersonville, 370 Old Shackle Island Rd, Hendersonville, TN 37075, or by calling (615) 824-0720. The family sincerely thanks NHC Hendersonville for the loving care provided to their Mom in the final years of her life.
