Agnes was born March 16, 1931, in Searights (Fayette County) and was the daughter of the late John & Mary (Brud) Kania. She spent her early years in Fayette County until her family moved to Clarksville in 1945. She attended Central School in Redstone Township and graduated from Uniontown Beauty Academy in the early 1980s.
On November 26, 1952 (Thanksgiving Eve), Agnes married Rudolph "Rudy" Haiden, who died June 18, 2001. They were married for 48 years and made their home in Clarksville.
Early in life, Agnes worked as a babysitter/nanny for seven children in the Brownsville and Uniontown areas, then locally as a clerk at the former IGA Grocery Store and Fashion Cleaners in Clarksville.
She was a member of the Clarksville Area Lions Club along with her husband for several years. She was also a member of St. Matthias Parish (St. Marcellus) in Jefferson, PA.
Agnes enjoyed all aspects of homemaking and flower gardening. Her favorite hobby was sewing. She made many alterations for customers at Fashion Cleaners and enjoyed collecting fabric and patterns. She especially enjoyed sewing curtains & draperies as well as many articles of clothing for herself, her daughters, and her granddaughter.
Agnes will be remembered for her warm hospitality by family and friends who visited. No one left her kitchen table without a cup of coffee and a slice of pie.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, MaryAnn Haiden of Clarksville, of whom she made her home prior to entering the personal care home, and Elaine (Robert) Simpson of Durham, North Carolina; and her beloved granddaughter, Haleigh Kristine Simpson of Durham, North Carolina. Agnes treasured her family and was very proud of their achievements, independence, and good moral character throughout their lives. Also surviving is her niece Annie (Tommy) Noska of Vestaburg, along with several nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New Jersey.
Agnes is the last survivor in a family of five siblings. Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a brother, Michael (Gladys) Kania of Boston, Massachusetts; a sister, Veronica (Mike) Pavlock of Clarksville; Anna (Alec) Ziros of Connellsville; Sophie Kania of Clarksville; and Helen (Joseph) Toth of Clarksville.
Our family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Lasosky’s and her hospice team for their compassionate care and dedication to Agnes. She felt loved and at home there during the final few weeks of her life.
In compliance with her wishes, funeral services will be private.
Donations can be made to the Washington County Blind Association, Washington, PA, in Agnes' memory.
