

He was born August 26, 1918 in Redstone Township, Fayette County, a son of the late Clyde W. and Sarah Shaffor Swartz.
Mr. Swartz had served in the United States Navy during WW II.
He was a retired coal miner; having last worked at US Steel’s Maple Creek Coal Mine and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Mr. Swartz was a member of the First Christian Church of Carmichaels.
When he was young he raced motorcycles in the AMA and raced cars; he also enjoyed restoring old cars.
On June 14, 1940 he married Mildred Finch, who died August 17, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Donald R. Swartz of Rices Landing and William C. Swartz and his wife Joyce of Avon, IN; three grandchildren, Donald S. Swartz II, Glenn T. Swartz and Jocelyn Rae Swartz; a brother, Arden “Buck” Swartz of Perry, OH.
Deceased are six brothers, Wilbur, Joseph, Clifford, Melvin, Gerald and Omar Swartz; and a sister, Sarah Louise Watkins.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Behm Funeral Homes, Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Reagan L. Fike officiating. Interment will follow in Centennial Cemetery, Aleppo Township.
