He was born on October 11, 1939, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the son of Alvie Everett Chidester and Wanda Eileen Chidester (née Gamble). On January 29, 1960, he married the love of his life, Sandra Chidester (née Ross), who survives him. Together, they celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Ronald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He worked for thirty-one years at Laurita Energy Corporation as an equipment operator and scale master. Farming was a cornerstone of his life, and he remained active in it throughout the years of his career. Over the course of his life, Ronald was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed. He served as a Maytag service technician, school bus driver, and truck driver/owner-operator. He owned a tire shop, provided custom combine-harvesting and livestock hauling for many local farms, and took part in the experimental farming project known as Flav-R-Beef. He was especially proud that he and Sandra hosted the First Annual Coal Miners’ Jamboree on their farm in 1983, an event that brought together friends, neighbors, and the community he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his son, Ronald E. Chidester, Jr. and his partner Joyce Kelly; his daughter, Kelly Chidester-Keruskin and her partner David Best; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; his sister, Rita; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie and Ralph. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Linus, who brought him much joy and companionship throughout the years.
A viewing will be held for family only, with a celebration of life planned for a later date.
