
Born in Wilkes Barre, PA (3/30/29) to Frederick G. and Thelma Neiger Johnson.

Member of Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, Dallas, PA and St Mary's Episcopal Church, Stuart, FL.
A graduate of Wyoming Seminary, undergraduate of Bryn Mawr College, honors graduate of the then Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women, now Amble campus of Temple University, Ambler, PA, she was active in many civic organizations, serving as an officer and chairing various committees on state boards of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania and the Garden Club of New Jersey. In PA and NJ she was president of four garden clubs, including the now-disbanded Garden Club of Wyoming Valley, and was a member of the Back Mountain Bloomers. A former member and past chairman of the Chester, NJ Borough Planning Board, the Chester Borough Shade Tree Commissions, the Short Hills, NJ Shade Tree Commission, she was named Chester Borough's Citizen of the Year in 1987. A former Chairman of Volunteers for the Millburn-Short Hills Red Cross she founded there the Creative Hands group. Other activities included Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H cooking classes, and Jr. Woman's Club. Most recently she was a member of both the Martin Co, FL and Wyoming Co, PA Master Gardeners.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years James F Besecker, Jr, a son James F Besecker, III (Sue) of Center Sandwich, NH, a daughter Laura Levine (Marc), Scottsdale, AZ; 4 grandchildren, James F Besecker, IV (Emily) of Ypsilanti, MI, Charles Zachary Besecker (Lydia) of Park City, UT, Rachel Emily Levine and Jessica Wilhelmsen (Kyle) of Scottsdale, AZ; 3 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and god children; and long time family friend Gail Pranitis (Rick) of Carmel, IN with daughters Georgia and Katherine Perry.
A son John Frederick Besecker, preceeded her in death in 1986.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00am on Saturday 4/28/2018 at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, 420 Main St., Dallas, PA 18612. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions to Prince of Peace Episcopal Church.
