Jim, my cousin. was a good friend as well when we were kids—except for the day he threw a bat and broke my leg! I got over it. Two years older, he taught me things like an older brother might do. Not all of them good! One day playing cowboys, he convinced me to drink vinegar to make it like I was having a drink at the Long Branch! And he taught me to make sandwiches with mustard on one side and ketchup on the other. He was always in good humor. Like others have said he grew to be a look-alike for his dad, my confirmation sponsor and favorite uncle.

I am truly sorry to hear of the passing of Jim.  My condolences to his family and friends.  We have lost several from the class of 1962, somehow this on really troubled me.  It has been a long time since we last talked.  I feel we could talk about anything, except the time I stepped on his hand in a JV football game.  Our families spent a lot of time together.  I wish I knew he moved within 20 minutes of me.  He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Although I did not see Jim often, when I did it was as though no time had passed.  He was a kind, soft spoken man with a wonderful sense of humor, smile and laugh.  I'll miss him dearly. I'm saddened to hear about the passing of Jim and my condolences to the family.  I grew up right around the corner from the Stevens family and spent many hours at their home.  Jim was my age, a great guy and we had a lot of fun as kids in Dansville. I had not seen Jim in many years but have fond memories of our childhood together. He will be surely missed.

Whenever we met, no matter how long the time frame was in between, Jim always had a smile and a laugh to share. It was always great to see him.
