October 19, 1948 – October 22, 2025
Joanne was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on October 19, 1948. She married her love, Dave, November 30, 1968 and the following the year in January 1969 the newlyweds moved to Florida where Joanne became the heartbeat of their home as a son (Shawn) and daughter (Shannon) completed their family. Jo lived with purpose, passion and an unwavering dedication to everything she loved: family, friends, and her church (Jensen Beach Community Church United Church of Christ). Whether she was hosting an exchange student, being a foster parent for a newborn baby, volunteering her medical skills on a trip with Doctors Without Borders, creating a safe haven for ferrets that were no longer wanted (at one point there were 50 – all of them named!) or rescuing a stray cat, she quietly went about her day without a lot of fanfare to her works. At her church, the committees, projects, and activities she was involved in would be a staggering number to try and count. However, an outstanding reminder that will be ever present are all the beautiful hanging banners she created over the years to match the liturgical calendar as well as all the lovely pillows she made for the church pews.
She loved to frequent thrift stores, finding joy in every bargain she negotiated down from ticketed price. Equal in passion were all things wicker, quilting, stained glass, chocolate and Mountain Dew.
Whether you were close to her in age or in spirit, her presence shaped you. Her light shines on in our memories with every song she sang, every animal she rescued, every sewing project she gifted, every cause she cared about, every confidence she kept and every thoughtful or encouraging word she spoke.
Though the ache of loss is deep, so is the gratitude for every moment shared. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of service and love in all that we do.
Just 3 days after her 77th birthday, God took her back home to rest in His care. As you continue to worship up there, Jo, tell God “Thank you” from all of us
and tell Him how grateful, lucky, and privileged we feel for knowing and loving you.
While Joanne is preceded in death by her son Shawn, he was never far from her thoughts as it was only her unshakeable faith that kept her together through such a difficult time - there is no doubt she is with him now.
She is survived by her husband Dave and daughter Shannon of Florida; daughter-in-law Dr. Kristy Wolske and grandson Jackson of North Carolina.
At the family’s request and in keeping with Joanne’s wishes, there will be no public service. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. In loving memory of this beautiful soul, friends are invited to donate to the Humane Society
