

John R. Slavsky, Jr. passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022. He was the loving son of Josephine and John Slavsky, Sr. of Detroit, MI (Cass Lake) and himself a metro Detroit resident for 55 years (Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills) and Florida resident 34 years (Stuart).
He attended University of Detroit and Georgetown University. He worked for the Department of Intelligence as an interpreter during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany and spoke several languages.
Professionally, he served as President of Slavsky Sales Manufactures Rep Firm and was also Owner and Chairman of the Board of Bruce Fox Inc. He served as Board Member for Providence Hospital, Southfield, MI, Board Member and President for both his condo associations in Bloomfield Hills, MI, and at the Woodlands Home Owners and Admiral Building Home Owners in Stuart, FL. John also generously supported and was a board member for Angels Place in Stuart, FL.
He was an original foodie before that term was popularly known. He loved to entertain clients at some of the best restaurants in Detroit and in Florida. He could be found barbequing his famous country ribs for his family on the weekends. He was a member of the Yacht & Country Club of Stuart, FL, Detroit Athletic Club, Detroit Yacht Club, Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, and a lifetime member of Orchard Lake Country Club, where he played golf often and made many friends. He was the Captain of his own ship and enjoyed cruising the Great Lakes and Florida waterways.
John met his wife Joyce on a blind date while she was in Detroit with a college friend. They married six months later on November 24, 1956. They had four children: Jay, Stanley, Stephanie and Susie, and raised them in Birmingham/Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. John and Joyce were married 65 years until her death in July 2022
He is survived by his devoted children, Jay (Carol) Slavsky of Petoskey, MI and Palm City, FL. Stephanie (Mike) Sommers of Plover, WI, Susie (Tom) of Fishers, IN, and daughter in law Fern Slavsky of Bloomfield Hills, MI; grandchildren, Shannon (Joe), Josie (Al),Christine, Joseph, Tim and Annie; great grandsons, Manny and Valley; his sister, Mary Jo (Chip) Dawson of Birmingham, MI, his brother Chris (Carolyn) Slavsky of Limestone, CO, his sister in law Shirley Kelly of Stuart, FL and sister in law Gigi Pszegon of Coral Springs, FL. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joyce Dyckes Slavsky and son, Stanley E. Slavsky.
He supported many charitable organizations throughout his life. Memorials can be made to University of Detroit or The Treasure Coast Food Bank.
A Memorial Mass for John & Joyce will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon September 16, 2022 at 10:00am.
