

June 25th, 1935 - June 9th, 2025
Robert Thomas Burns, Sr. of Jensen Beach, Florida, originally from New York, passed peacefully in the night on June 9th, 2025 following an extended illness. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Beverly Burns, who remained his precious love throughout his lifetime. He is also survived by his daughter, Marybeth Umphred (Charlie), his son, John Lennie Burns (Jodi) and his daughter-in-law, Margie Burns. Preceding him in death are his oldest and youngest sons, Robert Thomas Burns, Jr. and William Francis Burns, respectively.
A very proud grandfather, Bob is also survived by his grandchildren, Bobby Burns (KatieAnn), Kelsey Frey (Chris), Chad Umphred (Brittany), Paige Schillo (Greg), Tyler Umphred, Kevin Burns (Kayla) and Becky Parise (Mike), six great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Always a serious and devoted student, Bob excelled in his academic accomplishments which began with his undergraduate degree from his beloved Manhattan College. He continued his impressive education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned his graduate degree in engineering. Licensed as a Professional Engineer, his abilities and talents provided for an illustrious and successful career for which he was greatly admired.
His wealth of knowledge was not solely confined to his education. His inquisitive mind provided him with a fund of knowledge which was nearly unparalleled. Have a question, just ask Bob!!
Bob was a prolific reader throughout his lifetime, an avid golfer which he greatly enjoyed, particularly golfing in his later years with his son, John. He was also a proud member of the "Hole in One" club!! He was a very kind and generous soul to which his lifetime of friends and family will attest.
In his last remaining years, he took great comfort from the serenity and tranquility that his beautiful ocean view provided. It remained a priceless source of solace throughout his final days.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed. He was a very special soul.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St Martin de Porres Catholic Church 2555 NE Savannah Road, Jensen Beach, Florida 34957.
