Robert Gregory DeSantis (79), affectionately known by many as Bob, Bobby D, Uncle Big Bob, or Bob-Bob, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. A devoted husband, shamelessly proud father, loyal friend, and successful businessman, Bob’s warmth and lively nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Bob worked hard, played hard and lived a full life. Over recent months, all in his presence marveled at his strength and determination as he faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Bob was born on November 25, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Corrado and Angela DeSantis. He grew up surrounded by a large, close-knit Italian family and a love of sports that stayed with him throughout his life. After graduating from Germantown Academy in 1965, he proudly attended The Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania, where he played varsity football, joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and served as an inductee of Phi Beta Kappa.
In 1973, Bob married the greatest love of his life, Joan, and together they built a life centered on family, integrity, and hard work. Bob and Joan moved to Stuart, Florida in 1974. Leveraging his entrepreneurial spirit and persistence, Bob founded DeSantis and Company, later transforming it into DeSantis Commercial Real Estate. An educator at heart, Bob also served his industry as a teacher for the National Association of Realtors. Bob contributed his leadership and expertise through his service to the Martin County Board of Realtors (Past President), the Economic Council, the Business Development Board, and the Barnett Bank Board of Directors. Deeply committed to his faith and community, Bob served as a member of the Knights of Columbus, served on the St. Joseph Catholic School Advisory Board for several years, and helped launch the St. Joseph Catholic School Festival with his wife, Joan, a tradition that continues to support the school and local families today.
While many knew Bob through his accomplished real estate business, his true joy came from time spent with family - especially his cherished daughters, Jennifer and Christine, of whom he was immensely proud. His happiest days were those spent on the water, boating or fishing with his friends and nephews; at the piano, where Bob could play nearly any tune by ear on command; or storytelling around a family table or gathering.
Bob is survived by Joan, his beloved wife of 52 years; his two daughters, Jennifer Kypreos (Theo) and Christine Taylor (Teague); his four grandchildren, Louisa, Eva and Miller Kypreos and Oliver Taylor; and his brother Conrad DeSantis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Angela and Corrado; his sister, Angela Boyle; and his brother, Leonard DeSantis.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Bob’s life will be held on February 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stuart, Florida. A celebration of life will follow at 11:30 a.m. at The Pearl in Port Salerno.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly requests donations in his memory to St. Joseph Catholic School:
