Supported by family, Ron's life was dedicated to helping others through his long and successful career in higher education, a desire to help others achieve their best, and contributing to and involvement in the communities and churches in which he lived and prayed.
He grew up in Willoughby, OH where he attended Immaculate Conception Grade School, Cleveland St. Joseph High School, and John Carroll University in University Heights, OH. After graduation in 1959, he taught at Chanel High School near Cleveland for two years and completed his Master’s Degree at JCU, while also serving as an officer in the US Army Reserves in the Transportation and Logistics Corps. Ron then went on to pursue his Doctorate Degree in Philosophy at St. Louis University. He spent much of his academic teaching career (40 years) at Barry University in Miami Shores, FL, teaching core courses in Business Ethics, Philosophy of Law, and Biomedical Ethics, and was awarded various fellowships including one at Saint Jude’s Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
After his marriage to Dorothy McManus in 1987, both continued their community involvement and became leaders and long-term members of the Christian Life Community in South Florida. Together they attended their local Catholic Church and supported several missions within their church and communities such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Miami, Mary's Home of the Treasure Coast, and the Ethical Society of Greater Miami.
Upon retiring in 2008, he and Dorothy moved to Stuart, FL. At their local church, St. Joseph’s, both were very active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Faith Formation and Family Ministries, and for many years the leaders of the Social Justice Study Group.
Beloved husband, he was ever at his wife's side before she passed away in March, 2016. The two enjoyed 29 wonderful years together, travelled throughout the USA, and especially enjoyed the summers in their beautiful second home in the mountains of Colorado. Regardless of the location, one thing remained constant – Ron’s commitment and dedication to helping and uplifting everyone he met. He made a difference in every life he touched.
Ron's gentle soul, big heart, and easy laugh will be missed by everyone who knew him especially his surviving brothers, Ted Uritus, Columbus, OH, and Rick Uritus (Julie), Denver, NC, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
A memorial service celebrating Ron’s life will be held at 10:00 am on December 13, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1200 SE 10th St, Stuart, FL. To view a livestream of the service, please check this website often for a link prior to the service.
