

In loving memory of Sara “Sally” Louise Grubb Paviol Durkin, died April, 18, 2012. She was 83 years old, and a 23 year resident of Jensen Beach, FL. Sara was born in East Drumore, PA on November 16, 1928 to Emma Louise Lowe and Howard Scott Grubb of York and Lancaster County. She grew up on a farm near Fawn Grove by the PA–MD border.
Sara moved to Carlisle, PA in 1939 and graduated in the CHS class of 1946 and Dickinson College in 1949. She enjoyed a variety of activities including theater, horses, and oil painting. Sara worked at the Cumberland County Courthouse from 1965 to 1989 in the Probation Office and had many friends there. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carlisle for 73 years from 1939 to 2012. Sara was a multi-term Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church. In 1989 she moved to Jensen Beach, FL. She volunteered at Martin Memorial 'Francis Langford' hospital in Stuart, FL for 22 years and achieved over 3000 hours of service at the reception desk.
Sara was preceded in death by her first husband James Arthur Paviol, with whom she had five sons; James Robert Paviol, his wife Linda Clouser, John Maurice Paviol his wife Julie Wert, David Scott Paviol, his wife Denise Kerwood, Edward Arthur Paviol his wife Joni Marie Patton, and William Alan Paviol, and his wife Beth Cimarolli.
Paviol grandchildren include Philip Mark Paviol, his wife Lauren Campagna, Corey and Nick Bruner, Scott Maurice Paviol, Layne Katherine Paviol, Jaclyn Marie Ferrell, Sarah Xiao Paviol and Dax David Paviol. She also has a Great-grandson, Jackson Philip Paviol.
She was married to Joseph John Durkin and lived in Florida from 1989 to his death in 2007. Joe Sr. was also a graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA where she originally met him and then met him again at their 40th year reunion in 1989. They were married 6 months later. Joe is survived by three daughters and two sons, Joseph John, Patrica Ann, Kathleen Louise Taylor, Maureen Immaculata Powell, and Michael Joseph.
Durkin Grandchildren include Barbara Giovino, Margaret Durkin, Brooke Klauer, Austin Taylor, Kaitlin Taylor, Morgan Powell, Addison Durkin, and Connor Durkin. Durkin Great Grandchildren include Troy Giovino, Heather Giovino, and Declan Klauer.
Her hobbies included crocheting, gardening, cooking, and oil painting. She had many friends and relatives, too numerous to mention. She was class secretary for CHS and Dickinson College and enjoyed helping organize the reunions.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Martin Memorial North Chapel in Stuart, FL, and there will be a memorial service at 2 pm on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Ewing Funeral Home in Carlisle, PA follwed by a graveside service at Ashland Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jon Black of the First Presbyterian Church.
