Larry Franklin Dodson, Sr., age 80, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at his residence. He was born in West Virginia, a son of Dorothy Dodson Carver. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Verlin Patrick.
Larry worked in numerous positions within Solid Waste Services for the City of Johnson City for 50 years. He loved tinkering with things and would have told you he was the “Jack of all Trades and Master of None”. He loved photography, fishing, Nascar, University of Tennessee football and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Katherine Dodson; five children, Patricia Ann Briggs and husband Randy, Larry Franklin Dodson, Jr., Michael Shane Dodson, Sue Vest and husband Ken, and Sean Gregory Dodson and wife Wendy; six grandchildren, Courtney Briggs, Blake Briggs, Dustin Dodson, Samantha Tallman, Aidenn Dodson, and Brandon Dodson; one great granddaughter, Bella Kate Briggs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David McCoy and wife Doreen, and Ron McCoy and wife Frutosa “Tinky”; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Jeff Chandley and Rick Mitchell.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Minister Carla Jarrett, Pastor Joseph Hildebran, Pastor Elijah Smith officiating. Committal Service will follow funeral service in Funeral Home Chapel and Interment will be held in the Garden of Meditation at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
